The Real Joy That Day


They shut down 8th Avenue because a second guy climbed the Times Building. Just like when we were kids, watching an accident or a fire, we all hung out smack in the middle of the street watching the flashing lights, playing with one another and reenacting the news we were going to watch later.

I didn't understand what that was about. Sheer joy? A message? Better than hearing one more person complain about the weather! Seriously, what was he up to?

No, Don't rewrite! It's my pronoun vagueness. I meant the guy climbing the building--what was he up to? Was he climbing out of joy? Was he hoping a message would erupt out of the building he climbed? I love the guy doing the climbing-dance--and that is better than hearing about weather....
