Sunday Memories: Television, Old School

Someone once told me my sister and I were part of the less than 1% of Americans, born after a certain year, who grew up without a TV.

Even with my sneaking into friends' houses to watch the Addams Family or other forbidden shows broadcasting on days not Friday, the bottom line was that there was so much more to look at in our city life and with way fewer interruptions.

Somewhere during the first seven years of my life the family got their first television...I believe it was an Admiral. There wasn't all that much to watch. There still isn't.

I was happy when my family got an RCA Portable that had a cover with a handle on the top. It weighed a ton and was not so portable. But I was happy to watch "Captain Video and his Video Rangers" and later "Playhouse 90"

I think TV was a lot more interesting when there was just three channels and PBS. I cancelled my cable last year and haven't watched TV since.
